At Perlego, we’re working to make education material accessible to all. In this digital age, we believe that anyone should be able to learn anything at any time. Knowledge should be more accessible, not locked behind sky-high price tags and tuition fees.

We want to change that and make learning accessible to all, and help the environment along the way. Billed by the media as the “Spotify for Textbooks”, Perlego is a learning eBook subscription that gives students and professionals unlimited access to over 300,000 titles. 

With a recent Global expansion and an increased demand for online education post the recent crisis, we’re growing fast!

Job Description

We’re looking for a Financial Controller to build and lead our Finance function from scratch. You'll be the first Finance hire, which means you'll have a huge amount of responsibility and opportunity for growth as we scale.

The role will be split into two broad areas 1) Finance Operations and 2) Strategic Finance. You'll be responsible for both the day-to-day transactional finance as well as having the opportunity to support Senior Mgmt. on potential M&A, fundraising and our continued international expansion efforts.

This is an opportunity to join a post Series-A business, in a fast-growing sector and help us scale as we continue in our efforts to the world's largest online learning library!

What value you’ll add

  • Finance Operations
    • Manage end-to-end AP & AR processes
    • Manage accounts payable ledger on a day-to-day basis, reconcile accounts
    • Review, design and roll-out financial processes and systems, automating where possible
    • Ensuring where legally compliant across the business
  • Strategic Finance
    • In collaboration with Senior Mgmt;
      • Responsible for monthly statutory & management accounts
      • Manage budgeting and forecasting processes
      • Support on board, fundraising and M&A activities
    • Scenario planning and analysis to optimise the business for long term growth
    • Support our international expansion, advising on best practise managing multiple currencies, tax requirements, potential risks and ways to optimise
    • Proactively seeking out grant and funding avenues and supporting with applications

What you'll need to succeed

Must-haves:

  • Qualified accountant with strong academic background
  • Mathematical and data-driven approach, with advanced knowledge in Excel & Google-Sheets
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial projects, simply
  • Brilliantly organised and able to prioritise effectively
  • Strong understanding of world-class finance processes
  • Can-do attitude, no problem is too great to solve

Ideal candidates will also have:

  • Experience in a high-growth tech environment
  • Experience working on a subscription business
  • Experience with analysing or managing M&A and/or funding rounds
  • Experience in a well-respected global accountancy firm 
  • Have a general interest in education, reading and always learning new things!
